It is diagnosed by testing a stool (poop) or blood to see if the bacteria is in stool, body tissue, or fluids.

How do you get infected?
Most people become infected when they consume raw or undercooked food, fruits and vegetables, or unpasteurized dairy products. It can also be caused by improperly handled food, infected surfaces, and infected pets.

How is Salmonella Treated and how do you get help?
Most people recover from salmonella without any sort of treatment. However, for serious cases, antibiotics can be used. The best advice for someone who has been mildly sick is to stay hydrated for as long as the diarrhea lasts. If your case is serious, you should go to a doctor, who can then prescribe you antibiotics. To prepare for your doctor appointment, make a list of key symptoms and key information, so that your doctor can help you in the best way possible.
